About Preferred Reinsurance Intermediaries

We know the reinsurance market, and we take the time to know your business just as well. We pair more than four decades of experience with direct senior-level access, thoughtful advice, and relationships built for the long term.

Experience You Can Reach

Preferred Re was founded in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1983 by Robert H. “Bob” Sanders. His goal was to create a client-focused intermediary that could respond quickly without sacrificing the experience and market relationships needed to solve complex problems. That balance still shapes how we work today.

Clients work directly with experienced principals. There are no unnecessary layers between the people making recommendations and the people accountable for the relationship. When market conditions shift, a program changes, or a difficult decision needs to be made, our clients can reach people who know the history behind the work.

More than half of Preferred Re’s clients have worked with the firm for more than 10 years. We believe those relationships last because we listen first, communicate honestly, and remain involved beyond the placement. Our success is tied to the strength of the businesses we help our clients build.

What Does a Reinsurance Intermediary Do?

Preferred Reinsurance Intermediaries is a specialized reinsurance intermediary and strategic advisory firm serving insurance carriers, MGAs, MGUs, program administrators, alternative risk organizations, and emerging insurance ventures.

Preferred Re helps clients define what they need, prepare opportunities for the market, evaluate carrier and reinsurance options, negotiate terms, and support productive relationships after placement. We support clients throughout the life of an insurance program.

A list of top reinsurance companies can tell you who’s out there. It cannot tell you which reinsurer has the right appetite, terms, service model, and long-term fit for a specific program. Our role is to help you determine who fits your program and explain the tradeoffs in plain language.

What Guides Us

Company Values

Advisor Before Broker

We start with the business objective, not the placement. Before approaching the market, we ask the questions needed to understand what you are trying to protect, build, or change.

Experience You Can Reach

Clients work directly with experienced principals who understand both the technical details and the commercial stakes. We explain complex choices clearly and partner with you every step of the way.

Independent, Creative Thinking

We evaluate every opportunity on its own merits. Our recommendations are tailored to the risk, economics, and growth plan rather than forced into a standard structure.

Relationships Built To Last

We value durable partnerships over one-time transactions. Responsiveness, transparency, and follow-through remain important long after a placement is complete.

Our Team

Experienced People, Directly Involved

Our clients work directly with senior professionals who understand the history, goals, and commercial realities behind the work. When a decision matters, you can reach someone who knows the account and can help move it forward.
